A Chiddingfold couple have a love story that’s nothing short of a fairytale.

John and Phyllis Sheehan marked their 70th wedding anniversary on March 19 having married in 1955 in Guildford.

They’ve spent 68 years in the same home, raising five children. Phyllis, born in Haslemere in 1937, and John, born in Woking in 1933, met in Godalming after John’s national service in Egypt. To put in perspective just how long this couple has stood the test of time, Disneyland hadn’t even opened its doors when they tied the knot – the theme park opened on July 17, 1955.

They’ve been honoured with messages from both Queen Elizabeth and King Charles, for their 60th and 70th anniversaries.
