INSPIRATIONAL athlete Adelle Tracey, former Camelsdale Primary School and Midhurst Rother College (MRC) student has just been selected for Team England’s athletics squad for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

“I’m so excited to announce I will be competing at the Commonwealth Games in April,” she said.

Team England athletics squad leader Martin Rush said: “We are delighted to be sending this team to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

“The team is a real blend of experience and youth, featuring a number of athletes who performed well at last summer’s IAAF World Championships, as well as some who are making their senior international championships debuts. With just 75 places available, selection was always going to be a difficult task given the number of high-performing English athletes, but we are happy that we are taking a team that will be ready to perform at their best in Australia.”

Adelle, who was one of the seven London 2012 Olympic Cauldron lighters, was the 800m British Indoor Champion, in 2016. This year she became the national 800m senior silver medallist – both indoor and outdoor – and was a semi-finalist at the 2017 World Championships.

She visited Midhurst and Rother College earlier this term to meet the students and give a presentation on her experiences as part of the British Athletics “Inspire a Generation” programme.
