Grayswood couple Evelyn and Gwyn Phillips, founders of AppArt, are celebrating 30 years of hosting art exhibitions this Easter. The couple’s journey began in 1994 when an Arts for Everyone grant enabled them to launch an arts festival at King Edward’s School. Three decades later, their mission remains unchanged: to make art accessible to all. Today, AppArt is held at Prior’s Field School, having grown into one of the South East’s major art exhibitions.

The Haslemere event showcases work from local artists, many of whom have exhibited for years. Renowned artist Roger Dellar, known for his free impressionist style, has contributed numerous paintings. His “In the Bar – The Ivy” is a perfect example of his technique. Wendy Richards, a regular exhibitor, is celebrated for her striking scenes of London and the sea, including “Langston Reflections,” which captures the quayside at Hayling Island. Sonia Vine’s “Beach Brulee,” a coastal landscape, features a boy flying a kite, reflecting her love of strong light and everyday moments.
Sculptors also play a key role in AppArt, with works by Ronnie Dongo and David Paynter. Dongo’s “Two Talking Birds,” carved from African serpentine stone, is a highlight. Paynter’s abstract figures, such as “Falling in Love,” showcase his distinctive style. Landscape art is also a focus, with pieces like Anna Austin’s dramatic oil “Passing Storm” and Christopher Cole’s atmospheric “Puppies and Puddles.”
AppArt’s exhibition will run from April 5-20, open daily from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free. For more details, visit www.appartonline.co.uk or email [email protected]
