A BORDON pharmacy which struggled through Covid and provides a lifeline to many elderly patients will close tomorrow (Friday).
Years of funding cuts and a restricting contract have led to the shock closure of Gee’s Pharmacy.
The online pharmacy based in Woolmer Way has struggled with the increasing costs of providing free deliveries, with rising petrol prices hitting hard.
But it is not allowed to charge because of NHS contract terms, while the scrapping of government funding means the business is now unsustainable.
Pharmacist Anjala Sihota called the news heartbreaking for customers and her 15 colleagues.
She said: “I know a lot of pensioners that use us are in shock because our service is used by a lot of patients and sometimes the only person they’ll see is the driver.”
She added: “We do have a duty of care to patients so we feel responsible.”
Staff have spent much of the last week making arrangements with nearby chemists so prescriptions are not seriously affected.
