Road closures and diversions will affect the B3004 Alton to Bordon road for seven months next year while Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks does a £10.6 million cable upgrade stretching more than 11 miles.
For people wanting to find out more about the work there are exhibitions in the members’ room at Alton Community Centre on December 6 from 3pm to 6.30pm and at The Three Horseshoes pub in East Worldham on December 7 from 3pm to 7pm.
The sections of the B3004 affected are Mill Lane (January 9 to March 16), Wilsom Road (March 16 to April 22), Caker Lane (April 1 to April 28), Worldham Hill (April 28 to June 21) and Green Street (June 11 to August 12).
In a statement, the company said: “This involves the installation of 18 kilometres of modern and efficient cabling that will result in a stronger, more flexible network for those living and working in the area. To carry out this work safely, temporary traffic management and a diversion will be in place on the B3004 from January 9 to August 12.
“People living or working on the road can still drive in and out. Residents, delivery drivers, blue light services and the council’s waste collection service can all still use the road in both directions, via the diversion route, up to the section of road where the team is working.
“The team will proceed along the B3004 in an easterly direction, starting on Mill Lane in Alton, and further information on the project can be found on our website, together with an interactive map showing where we are currently working.
“Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks understands that any road closures and diversions can be frustrating, but has worked closely with the highways authority and the local authority to ensure these temporary traffic measures are kept to a minimum and ensure the safety of engineers, road users and pedestrians.”
