Four choirs came together at Weydon School in Farnham to raise more than £1,500 for the Royal Surrey Cancer and Surgical Innovation Campaign.

Performing in the concert were The Royal Surrey Choir, Farnham and Bourne Choral Society, Harmonix and the Weydon School Senior choir who sang a combination of show songs, Christmas carols and popular Christmas songs, finishing with an arrangement of Have yourself a very merry Christmas featuring more than 100 singers on stage.

Guests in the audience were MP Jeremy Hunt, The Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, the mayors of Farnham and Guildford, chairman of the hospital trust Joss Bigmore and the new Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Farnham and Bordon Greg Stafford.

The concert ‘A Positive Festive Note’, was organised by the Friends of Royal Surrey Charity, chaired by Judith Storey.

Judith said: “We were so delighted the four choirs performed to support the fund raising campaign and that the community came together, with so many local businesses, shops and restaurants who donated amazing raffle prizes.

“The new facility will provide services throughout Surrey and the South East area across a population of up to three million.

“More than 7,000 more patients will be treated every year, with reduced waiting times, improved outcomes and patient experience.

“The centre will provide an increased opportunity for robotic surgery and support research, training and education.”

Jeremy Hunt said: “It was a tremendous evening – uplifting and great fun, thank you to all those involved.”

The fundraising team presented a cheque for £40,000 to the hospital which represented the money raised by the group in the first year.
