Redcot Residential Care Home in Haslemere, part of the charity Friends of the Elderly, is excited to announce the launch of its monthly Community Knit and Natter Group, which will bring together local residents, staff, and the wider community for a social, creative experience.

Jenny Ryder, Activities Coordinator at Redcot, said: “Knitting is an enjoyable and therapeutic activity that has numerous benefits for older people. It’s a fantastic way to keep the mind active, reduce stress, and foster creativity. It’s also been shown to improve overall wellbeing, as it can lower blood pressure and help manage chronic pain, such as arthritis.”

Jenny has designed a variety of engaging activities for the residents, and the Knit and Natter Group is the latest addition.

"This group will allow residents and members of the local community to interact, share stories, and create together. Knitting is a skill that crosses generations, and we hope it’ll bring people of all ages together."

The group is open to everyone, regardless of knitting experience.

"Whether you’re an expert knitter or a beginner, we encourage everyone to come along, share a cuppa, and enjoy some knitting," said Staci Abernethy, Redcot’s Interim Manager.

In addition to knitting, attendees will be treated to a selection of delicious homemade cakes, teas, and coffees, prepared by Redcot’s chef.

“Knitting is an activity that can bring so much joy, and it’s wonderful to have the community come together to support our residents,” said Staci.
