IT was celebration time all-round before the end of term at Grayswood Primary School, which has not only been rated ‘good with outstanding’ by both Ofsted and The Church of England’s schools inspectors, but also won the year six group category in the Confederation Sports competition.

Ofsted inspectors judged the school to be ‘good with outstanding for personal development, behaviour and welfare, and church inspectors (SIAMS) rated Grayswood ‘good with outstanding for impact of collective worship.’

Grayswood was last inspected by Ofsted in 2008.

Since then, it has been expanded into a full primary and a new whole school national curriculum has been introduced with significantly increased end of year expectations.

There has also been a new rigorous Ofsted inspection framework.

The inspectors noted: “Following a lengthy period of change involving the addition of key stage two to the school and interim leadership, the quality of education has been revitalised.”

It also stated: “This is a school going from strength to strength.”

The relationships and behaviour around the school was also commended. Inspectors reported: “Teachers enjoy excellent relationships with pupils and set work that excites and inspires.”

They praised classes as ‘productive, calm and positive spaces’ and noted pupils are ‘exceptionally tolerant, respectful and responsible’ and played with ‘joy and excitement’ in the playground.

The curriculum was described as: ‘exciting and well planned.’

“Pupils develop knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of disciplines, including the arts and sport. A variety of trips and residential visits enrich pupils’ experiences,” it reported.

Grayswood was commended for giving pupils a ‘a strong start to their education’ by developing a secure academic foundation.”

Headteacher Jo Fraser said: “We have had a busy couple of week with Ofsted on June 12 and SIAMS on June 25.

“Our first year six cohort also won their year group category in the Confederation Sports competition. So all round, a great few weeks at Grayswood.

“We are very pleased with our recent Ofsted report and would like to extend our thanks and congratulations to the staff for the outcome of the inspection.

“The inspection findings closely match our own evaluation of our school and the areas for development will be part of our school development plan next academic year.”
