FERNHURST residents are celebrating the re-opening of their post office – and a new convenience store.
Bala Thayaparan, who ran the Cee Gees store in Camelsdale that closed in August 2019, has opened a new business just up the road with his wife Sue, a former Guildford postmistress.
The post office has reopened at its former premises in Crossfield, following the closure of Dudman Ward electricals in January 2019.
Residents have been served by a twice-weekly mobile post office van but can now access services Monday to Saturday from 9am to 9pm and Sunday from 9am to 2pm.
Mr Thayaparan said: “We are very pleased to be open and very happy to be in Fernhurst.
“Sue worked for 11 years at the North Street post office in Guildford and I am training as a postmaster.
“We will be open long hours, because the village needs to have a store open at convenient times. On Saturdays we will have fresh bread from Petworth bakery Sodt.”
