A GEORGIAN-style mansion is to be built in Chiddingfold and the former Sydenhurst Care Home demolished, despite objections from the parish council that the 30-acre site would be better used to build affordable homes.
Sydenhurst, which was originally set up for war veterans and refugees in 1949, closed in 2013 after the Association of Ukrainians In The UK said it was no longer economically viable and the remaining residents were relocated.
Waverley Borough Council's southern area planning committee last week gave new owners Gerard and Caroline Ayrton-Grime permission to build a three-storey stately home-style mansion with nine bedrooms.
