One of this year’s Haslemere Hens will be displayed in HM Prison Send.
Haslemere Rotary president Paul Mills presented the hen – which had been painted by women prisoners at HM Prison Send – to Sally Varah.
This hen was given by Brian Howard, organiser of the Haslemere Hens charity fundraising initiative.
It will now be displayed in the prison, showing how the community can help those serving time.
A group of women prisoners – who are part of an art group Sally supports – each contributed something to the hen’s design.
There are intricate paintings on all sides of the hen – the artists were so proud of their work they wanted to keep it.
The prison governor recognised this as a project which reflected skill, development and valuable community involvement.
A Haslemere Hens charity gala auction will be held at Haslewey Community Centre tomorrow (Saturday).
