A packed charity quiz night at Our Lady of Lourdes parish hall in Haslemere raised an impressive £1,620 to support children’s education in Eastern Uganda.

The parish has long championed education in the region, where many families live in remote farming communities with limited access to schools. The funds will help sponsor a shipment of schoolbooks through UK charity Books2Africa, while also supporting the education of eight girls.

Quiz organiser Jo Allen, with the help of Suzanne Anstee and Audrey Podmore, put together a lively evening for more than 100 participants with Eric Anstee as MC.

A giant raffle added considerably to the fund with prizes kindly contributed by Fratelli, Cook, Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Haslemere Bookshop, Little Fish Liphook, Carlos and DogRoom.
