Haslemere Town Council (HTC) has confirmed that it has entered into a 999 year lease with Stonewater for the land lying to the east of the new Sturt Road development.

Under the terms of the lease, HTC is responsible for the management of the Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace`(SANG). Including grounds maintenance, signage and the emptying of the dog foul bins.

The developer was required to provide a SANG as part of planning conditions, to ensure there would be no significant impact on the Wealden Heaths Phase 2 Special Protection Area (SPA).

HTC said: “This SANG land is designed to provide an enjoyable natural environment for recreational use and is open to the public all year round.”

Pedestrian access is off footpath 35 from Sturt Road to Longdene Road and Hedgehog Lane. There are a number of circular walks and views over Lynchmere Commons Nature Reserve.
