HASLEMERE town centre absolutely sleighed it with its annual carol singing concert outside the Town Hall last Thursday.

Hundreds of residents sang their way through the classic carols and hits, with plenty of festive cheer – and mulled wine – flowing. The event was organised by Haslemere Town Council with the Chamber of Trade and Commerce providing the refreshments, which everyone agreed was money well spent.

But mulled wine wasn’t the only thing flowing, with donations to the mayor’s charities reaching a whopping £700. The council wanted to thank everyone who donated and all those involved in the organisation of the carols. Mayor Jerome Davidson opened the carols with town crier Christian Ashdown hosting, bell in tow. 

And despite Christmas being only weeks away, you-know-who made the long trip down from the North Pole. Santa joined Cllr Davidson and Christian on stage, doling out candy canes to all the children in attendance.  

Cllr Davidson said: “It was wonderful to see so many residents out in festive spirit and fine voice, supported by the fantastic Harmonix choir. 

“This event is now firmly established in the Haslemere calendar, but couldn’t take place without the hard work of the town hall team and volunteers, Town Crier and, of course, the Chamber of Trade who do such a wonderful job of providing the refreshments. I would like to wish all residents a happy and restful Christmas break.”
