The Liberal Democrat candidate who came a close second in the race to represent Farnham & Bordon has made a heartfelt thanks to voters.
Khalil Yousuf says it’s “his duty and privilege” to thank the 17,602 people in the Farnham, Bordon, Haslemere and Liphook area who voted for him.
The politician said in a letter he was overwhelmed by the “warmth and kindness” shown by residents during his campaign.
He added: “Integrity and the fundamental principle of service were at the core of our campaign as we collaborated with landowners, Ofwat, and the Environment Agency to address sewage dumping.
“We engaged with schools and numerous parents to tackle the severe lack of adequate SEND provisions. With the support of local businesses, we organised new apprenticeships to help save the Future Skills Centre.
“Additionally, we supported youth centres, arranged housing for those in need, assisted the homeless, and held extensive meetings with NHS experts to address the shortage of NHS dentists and GPs in the constituency.
“On the morning of the election results, we were delivering food to a food bank, because that was the need of the time.”
He continued: “During our campaign, I received over 3,000 emails. From the scores of messages I received, it was clear that we did not just win votes. It is humbling to know that we won the hearts of thousands of you.
“But as I express my deep gratitude, I am more conscious than ever the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
“I remain committed to serving the residents of this constituency with sincerity and devotion. In doing so, I will continue to strive for a fair deal for you, challenge injustices, and be at the forefront of bringing people together under the banner of peace, tolerance, and unity.”
