SHOTS were fired at a popular cafe at Petersfield Heath Pond last night with windows being smashed by mindless vandals.
The culprits used a suspected catapult or air rifle to smash several windows at the Plump Duck as the owners found ball bearings during the clean-up.
The incident happened late last night (Monday, January 22) with the owners urging witnesses or anyone with information to call the police.
“We do not know if this was a targeted attack on us or whether this happened elsewhere in town,” wrote worker Sarah Massey in her witness appeal.
“Worryingly, it looks like it was committed with a gun or catapult as we found ball bearings at the scene.
“This means we have a person wandering around town with a potential weapon which is more of a concern.”
The café’s CCTV cameras have since been reinstated with anyone on the premises outside its 10am to 4pm opening hours being treated as a trespasser.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call 101 quoting DP-2170-24-4444-00 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A similar incident took place on the A325 between Bordon and Farnham last Monday as a ball bearing was shot at a gritting lorry in Bucks Horn Oak.
The ball bearing was fired from a passing vehicle and smashed the driver's side window. The driver was shaken, but not injured, and managed to retain control of the lorry in icy conditions.
