A Petersfield men’s group has been shortlisted for a national award recognising their work.

Petersfield Men’s Shed is up for Men’s Shed of the Year at this year’s UK Men’s Shed Awards. The Awards recognise Sheds and individuals that make a difference in their Sheds, local communities and exemplify the Shed Movement.

The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, November 19 on International Men’s Day. It will take place at the House of Commons and Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle will host the event.

Speaking to Mike Waddington at Petersfield’s Shine Radio, chair Nick Broom, said: “Each year the UK National Men’s Shed Association has a few awards and the prestigious one is Men’s Shed of the Year and we are one of the three finalists. It is a really nice recognition and there are 1,100 sheds in the country, so it’s nice to be one of three.”

The nomination reads: “Petersfield Men’s Shed have fostered a culture of belonging, friendship and purpose at their Shed creating a safe and interesting environment for their members.

“They have developed deep connections in their area, working with their local GPs and social prescribers to welcome new members. The Shed is well known, and have worked on many community projects supporting residents and the environment including bike repair, and making owl and kestrel boxes.

“The Shed also have a focus on non-craft based activities with cookery classes, a guitar group, and even a pizza oven for after Shed socialising.”
