Phyllis Tuckwell celebrated the opening of its new Donation & Trade Centre in Farnborough on Saturday with a "hugely successful" £5 kilo sale.
The sale offered a wide range of men’s, women’s and children’s items, including on-trend clothes, stylish shoes and must-have handbags, all priced at just £5 per kilo.
Many supporters came along to the new centre, which is located on Invincible Road in Farnborough, to browse through the items on sale and pick up some bargains.
“We were delighted to be able to open our new centre with a £5 kilo sale,” said Barry Young, retail operations manager at Farnham-based Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care.
“It was great to see so many people coming along to browse through the range of clothes, shoes and accessories on sale, stocking up on wardrobe essentials or treating themselves to something a bit special, all at a really low price.”
The new Donation & Trade Centre will offer supporters another location where they can donate any quality second hand items which they no longer want, for Phyllis Tuckwell to sell in its shops.
Every day the charity has to raise more than £25,000 to be able to continue providing its supportive and end of life care to local patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.
Its shops raise more than £2.5 million a year and so are very important to the charity.
The centre will also provide Phyllis Tuckwell with a much-needed central sorting location, where all of its donated items can be taken, sorted and distributed to the most appropriate of its 17 shops, such as its Downing Street shop in Farnham for antiques, or its Guildford High Street shop for art and collectables.
It will also sort stock there to be sold at its very successful pop-up shops at festivals, and at its popular £1-an-item sales which take place at its College Town and Farnborough shops.
As well as selling items at its shops, Phyllis Tuckwell also sells an increasing number online too, through websites such as eBay, Amazon, Vinted and Depop, and this new centre will become its base for managing this online trading and ecommerce.
Its online sales include vintage fashion and streetwear, jewellery, vinyl and a whole host of classic and collectable items. It is also looking at offering brand new services from this site, such as trade or bulk sales, upcycling, and house clearance services, all of which will be organised and managed with the environment and sustainability in mind.
“Our impact on the environment is something that we are very mindful of,” continued Barry.
“We have put in place enhanced recycling processes and procedures to ensure that we minimise the number of items that we send to landfill, and instead look at each item individually to see if and how it can be sold, used, upcycled or recycled, in line with our sustainability ethos.”
The new Donation & Trade Centre will be open Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 4.30pm, and can accept clean and good quality men’s, women’s and children’s clothes, shoes and boots, hats, scarves, handbags and accessories, books, DVDs, CDs and vinyl, pictures, mirrors, homeware and bric-a-brac, board games and jigsaw puzzles, furniture, jewellery and watches, toys, antiques, cameras, binoculars, foreign coins and bank notes, and old mobile phones and tablets.
You can also still donate items to Phyllis Tuckwell’s Furniture Showroom & Donation Centre in Farnham, or any of its local high street shops, the addresses for which can be found at www.pth.org.uk/our-high-street-shops
