A planning application by Bloor Homes to build 100 houses on the site of the poultry farm on Chiltley Lane, Liphook, has caused an outcry from villagers.
An application by Bloor Homes on the same site in 2014 was refused after an appeal to the Planning Inspector mounted by local residents in 2016 was upheld.
The new application is broadly similar in concept to the original plan with all cars and service vehicles accessing the site through the Berg estate and on to the Midhurst Road junction from Chiltley Way.
The construction phase is likely to take up to three years. The requisite SANG (Site of Alternative Natural Green Space) is proposed at Iron Hill over the county boundary in West Sussex.
But a spokesman from the South and East Liphook Residents Group (SELReG) said: “Enough is enough. Liphook’s infrastructure is already at breaking point with medical facilities and the pharmacy heavily over-subscribed, local schools full and the utility network stretched beyond capacity.
“Add to this the increase in road traffic the development will bring means the impact will be widely felt across the whole village. Liphook cannot take any more – we are full!”
SELReG says it is in discussion with Bramshott & Liphook Parish Council and East Hampshire District Council in a bid to have this application refused once again.
Its spokesman continued: “Our councillors should be under no illusions as to the strength of feeling about this development in Liphook and the detrimental impact for the village it will bring. We are gearing up for a long, hard battle – but we will prevail.
“The planning application clearly shows that all construction traffic must be routed through the Square for the whole three-year build programme as well as construction workers.
“Then there will be upwards of 100 more cars daily from the development – it is too far from the village centre to realistically suggest people will walk or cycle. The developers are in cloud cuckoo-land if they think otherwise.
“It is simply not sustainable. Nor too is the SANG at Iron Hill. There is no safe footpath to the site and at over 2km from the development, residents will surely drive. The same goes for schools – the primary school is more than 2.5km away.”
A meeting of the parish council planning committee to discuss the application will be held on March 20 at 7.30pm at the Millennium Hall and the turn out by villagers is likely to be significant.
