A CAMPAIGN that sets out to improve the well-being of children and help all children and young people realise their potential has gained a special award for Fernhurst Primary School.

Working with with Unicef and its Rights Respecting Schools Initiative, the award is aimed at helping understand the principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation.

With a range of initiatives suitable for all ages it includes giving older children the confidence to speak up for themselves and others, about finding their voice and having the courage to speak out when something is not right.

Delighted that it has now reached the first stage of its Rights Respecting Schools the school has been awarded a Recognition of Commitment Award.

In the meantime it continues its work around the Rights of a Child and hoping to advance to a level one award.

Work on the campaign at the school is improving the well-being of its children, developing their talents and abilities to the fullest and creating children who feel empowered and who respect each other and those around them.

The award not only improves children’s self-esteem, enhance their moral development and improves behaviour and relationships, it also aims to help staff too by improving the school overall and its learning and academic standards.
