A Haslemere care home has pulled out all the stops to complete the installation of the care home's very own pub - The Redcot Arms - for the residents to enjoy just in time for summer.
Redcot care home's new pub will be officially opened by the Mayor of Haslemere, Councillor Jerome Davidson and TikTok star Sophie Liard at 11:30am on Tuesday, July 4, as part of the home's open day.
Manager Jan Daly said the idea for the pub came from a reminiscence activity with residents back in December 2022 where they spoke about music halls, first dances and everyone's first drink.
She said: "That was it, the seed was planted in my head to create our own pub, I had to make it happen.
"I spoke to our care team, and we all thought it was a great idea to have our very own Redcot pub, as we all thought the residents would really appreciate it."
Located in the care home's beautiful gardens, The Redcot Arms is actually a repurposed garden visiting room that was in place during the pandemic.
Now, totally refurbished, the pub has been fitted out with a bar, outside seating with umbrellas and all the accessories you'd find in your local.
A pub sign with neon lighting highlights the pub's unusual opening hours: 'The Redcot Arms, Always Open.'
The pub will be open whenever the residents would like to use it, with a variety of drinks including tea, coffee, lager, wine, fruit punch, and soft drinks.
The care home team is also thinking up a signature cocktail for residents to enjoy.
The open day event will run from 11am to 4pm and is open to all and free of charge.
There will be musical performances by Bill Clayton, The Redcot Choir, and Connie, Redcot's residential music therapist, as well as a BBQ lunch.
Sophie Liard, TikTok's renowned The Folding Lady, will also present the charity Friends of the Elderly, which manages the care home, with a cheque for over £8,000.
Sophie has strong family links to Redcot and Friends of the Elderly and is running in aid of the charity in this year’s London Marathon.
