Vandals have struck again on Lion Green, this time setting fire to a picnic bench in the latest attack on the community space. The fire, discovered during a routine inspection on January 14, follows the earlier vandalism of the public toilets, which forced the closure of the disabled facility.

Damage included a snapped emergency cord, a broken door, and a torn baby-changing strap. A fire was also started in another toilet using a drinks can. The town council, which invested £140,000 in the facilities, called the vandalism “frustrating” and has introduced dusk closures to deter further incidents.

The latest attack raises fresh concerns over anti-social behaviour in the area. To reassure the local community, Surrey Police have stepped up patrols in the area.
