A nearby boardwalk in Elstead has been shortlisted for Britain’s Favourite Path, representing the South East of England.
The boardwalk in the conservation wetlands area of Thursley Common is a favourite walk for locals. It stretches over more than 1.3 km, with viewing platforms to take in the scenery. From ponds with dragonflies and damselflies, colourful heathlands and wetlands.
MP for Godalming and Ash, Jeremy Hunt, said: “Recently repaired and improved following the devastating fire a few years ago. This path takes its rightful place as one of the 8 finalists in the UIK competition by The Rambers' Association.”
The boardwalk was reopened in April 2023 and the ceremony to mark the occasion drew in a large number of people. Public donations, parish councils, charities, and other organisations helped raise more than £50,000 for the restoration.
