NOT content to just celebrate World Book Day, Barrow Hills School went the extra mile and dedicated a whole week to books and reading for all year groups.

Book Week included an “extreme reading competition” with children submitting photos of themselves reading in a strange or unusual place.

Back to School Bedtime Story involved children in years three-eight returning to school in pyjamas and dressing gowns to enjoy a bedtime story and hot chocolate.

Children in reception and years one and two at the Witley school changed into pyjamas and had their story at the end of the day.

Finally World Book Day saw pupils dressed as their favourite book characters and donating books to the school library.

Headmaster Sean Skehan said: “Reading is clearly an integral aspect of a child’s learning journey and we embrace any initiative which helps to encourage our children’s appreciation of books. In a world dominated by technology and screens, reading is more important than ever as a way for children to relax.”
