ALTON Squash Academy, whose very existence is under threat after East Hampshire District Council’s decision to reduced the number of courts from four to two in the new ‘leisure’ centre, have just completed their most successful season ever in the Hampshire County League.

It culminated in Alton’s first team being crowned Division Four champions and gaining promotion to Division Three, with a record of played 18, won 15, lost 3.

The second team led Division Five all season, but were just beaten into third place, still with the chance of promotion (played 18, won 13, lost 5.)

Alton’s third team finished a remarkable fourth in Division Six (played 18, won 10, lost 8), having come bottom last season. The Alton veterans achieved a respectable mid-table finish.

During the season, the club has had 22 players competing in the Hampshire League, of which 14 improved their England rankings.

Alton Squash Academy hold club nights at Alton Sports Centre on Thursdays, when they welcome players of all levels.

The club also runs an internal league ladder and free coaching sessions are offered to developing players as part of membership.

The Hampshire League runs from September to May and Alton’s home fixtures are played at the Sports Centre on Tuesdays (7pm).
