Bordon bareknuckle fighter Darren Hendry was delighted with his night’s work after comfortably beating Luke Atkin in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
It was an emotional night for Hendry, who dedicated the victory to his mother.
Hendry was in control throughout the contest and won by knockout at Planet Ice, Elland Road, Leeds.
The Bordon bareknuckle fighter had been expecting a tough fight, but was pleased with how it panned out.
“It wasn’t really that tough a fight,” said Hendry.
“Luke just kept trying to make it scrappy – he kept trying to get hold of me. He was trying to hold me all fight.
“I did headbutt him a couple of times – which I wasn’t allowed to do and the referee told me off for headbutting him.
“At the end of the second round I hit him with a four-punch combination.
“I fractured his eye socket and he said he couldn’t see. He went down and the referee called the fight off.
“I dedicated the fight to my mum who is battling kidney failure.
“For my ring walk I dressed up as Hannibal Lecter with the words free Lee Murray.
“Lee is a friend of mine who is serving time in a Morroccon prison.”
Hendry has little time to rest on his laurels, with a gloved boxing bout coming up in Berlin tomorrow (Friday).
“I’m dedicating my life to fighting now,” said Hendry.
Hendry does plan to have a bit of a break for the festive period before looking ahead to what 2024 has to offer.
There aren’t any fights lined up for next year yet, but Hendry is remaining focused.
“I’m going to have a little bit of time off over Christmas, but I’ll be back in the gym,” said Hendry.
“I’ll see what is next and take each fight as it comes.”
