Clanfield’s first team beat Petersfield’s second team by 113 runs in Division Five South East of the Hampshire Cricket League.
Clanfield were asked to bat first by Petersfield and got off to a flying start. Opener Alex Andrews carried his bat for 124 not out, and hit 19 boundaries. Thomas Wright was also in the runs, hitting 54 from 47 balls.
Clanfield capitalised on the fast-flowing South Lane Meadow outfield and finished on 227 for four.
Petersfield started their innings with the intent of scoring quickly, but Clanfield’s Nick Sawyer (two for 37) took the key wickets of Petersfield openers Tom Horwood and Steve Gibson.
Clanfield spinner Ollie Sedgwick claimed his first five-for of the season and recorded figures of five for eight as Petersfield were bowled out for 114 in the 28th over.
Clanfield will travel to Emsworth’s second team on Saturday.
Clanfield’s second team slipped to a one-wicket defeat at Portsmouth & Southsea’s fourth team in Division Six South East of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday.
Solid batting from Roy Goulding (20), Alex Graham (45) and Dave Hickey (37 not out) saw Clanfield amass a total of 175 for five in their 40 overs.
Clanfield’s bowling was relatively consistent, but Portsmouth were able to score runs at a steady rate to close in on their target.
While the arrival of Dave Sansom (three for 13) and Dave Hickey (three for 16) saw six wickets fall for three runs, Portsmouth managed to score the winning runs with a wicket to spare.
