Farnham’s second team crashed to a 175-run defeat against Egham’s second team on Saturday.
Egham won the toss and elected to bat on a green but flat Farnham wicket. With runs flowing rapidly Farnham skipper Daniel Wakely rang the changes to try to make something happen, but the breakthrough instead came when confusion over a second run was punished by an excellent throw from Rory Shayler at deep cover. One wicket brought two, with Egham opener Charlie Bridgewater strangled down the leg side off the bowling of Mo Talha. Although the rate slowed from the initial seven an over Egham continued to score quickly and were bowled out for 280.
Farnham’s innings got off to the worst possible start with Talha dismissed leg before wicket first ball by Matthew Cooper. Alex Kardamilakis was then bowled leaving an inswinger from the same bowler. Evan Mann showed good intent at the other end, greeting Harinder Mandahar with a straight six through the door of the pavilion. Another attempt at going over the top went straight up in the air to leave Farnham struggling at 32 for three. Wakely started to find his timing with three driven boundaries through the off side but then was unable to get enough elevation on his next shot and was caught at mid-on for 13. Tarquin Hellier was run out having pulled his hamstring coming back for a tight second run and wickets fell steadily until Farnham had collapsed in a heap to a rather sorry 105 all out. Farnham will travel to Old Emanuel on Saturday.
Farnham’s third team slipped to a five-wicket defeat against Shalford’s second team in Division Seven of the I’Anson League on Saturday. Farnham scored 139 for five off their allotted 40 overs. Shalford knocked the runs off in the 38th over.
