FARNHAM Triathlon Club is the first in the South Central region to be awarded the British Triathlon TriMark Club Bronze Accreditation.

Farnham Tri is indebted to Keith Conradi for his contribution in gaining the award.

The club is assessed in meeting necessary standards over criteria broken down into four distinct areas of club management, activity programme, duty of care and welfare and ‘knowing your club and community’.

Farnham is one of the longest established triathlon clubs in the country and the management committee is continuing to keep pace with the rapid growth of the sport and takes pride in its place at the forefront both on and off the field of play, while continuing to coach and encourage new members of all ages and abilities.

The fruits of a flourishing youth section were evident at Dorney Lake, Eton in the BTF Children’s Super Tri where the club had 11 representatives in categories ranging from 8-year-old tristart to junior 17-18 draft-legal competition.

The event offers a rare opportunity for youngsters to compete at an Olympic venue with a 100 to 750m swim in open water, followed by a closed-road cycle (1.5km up to 20km) and run (600m to 5km) sections over their respective race distances.

James Long excels at this fast and furious format and lowered his own course record to retain the overall and male veteran title for the fourth successive year in 49mins 31secs.

Posting the fastest swim (10-15) and bike (23-50), Long ran out a comfortable winner ahead of Dom Brooks who was a clear winner of the male super veteran category in finishing second.

The male senior category was a closer affair, with Mark Taylor holding off Leo Maliphant whose run time of 14-50 was fastest of the day.

The ladies’ race produced an equally dominant winner in Lynda Coggins who had the fastest swim, bike and run to finish well under the hour mark and take female super veteran honours.

In second place, Claudia Forster won the senior award, while Mel Pearce was first female veteran.
