FARNHAM TOWN manager Paul Johnson had a break this week to go skiing – and he doesn’t expect any slip-ups tomorrow (Saturday) when his side take on local rivals Badshot Lea.

It’s a local derby the fans will be relishing with Town showing improved form under Johnson, and the Baggies still fighting for automatic promotion at the top of the Combined Counties Premier South table.

Town didn’t have the best preparation for the game, going down 1-0 to Frimley Green last week.

But Johnson wasn’t overly concerned. “It wasn’t a bad performance, it was just we had chance after chance after chance and didn’t take any of them. And they took one of their two chances – although to be fair, they took it well.

“Maybe, fingers crossed, the goals are saving themselves up for the game against Badshot Lea – that would be nice. That’s a good game to be looking forward to.

“I know a lot of people at the club – I’ve had some of their players before, although they didn’t quite cut it, so they have a point to prove. 

“They have been stumbling a little bit of late so hopefully we can put another nail in their coffin.”

Badshot Lea go into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw with fellow promotion rivals Jersey Bulls and a comfortable 2-0 win at Horley on Tuesday night.

“The Jersey game was a bit scrappy, and we looked a bit nervous as there was a lot hingeing on the result” said co-manager Gavin Smith.

“Every game in this league is difficult and if we want to achieve anything we have to be up for it every week.

“We were much better against Horley – we made a few changes and the players who came in had an energy and a hunger. We struggled to break the deadlock but once we had opened the scoring, I felt there was only going to be one winner.

“Farnham will be tough – we’re local rivals and it’s all about getting the bragging rights.

“They will be up for it after their defeat on Saturday – we probably would prefer not to play them after they have lost to a team at the bottom so they will want to beat us because of where we are in the league and what we want to achieve.”

The game kicks off at Farnham's Memorial Ground at 3pm. Fans should be reminded there is no on-site parking for fans and there are local roadworks and road closures. Supporters are recommended to leave their cars at the at Lower Hart car park (GU9 7HA).
