Farnham Town continued their pre-season preparations with a superb 4-0 victory against a QPR XI at a packed Memorial Ground.

Goals from Darryl Sanders, Harry Cooksley, Duarte Martins and Joe Jackson fired Farnham to an emphatic win against a young QPR XI in front of a crowd of 1,205.

Farnham were quick out of the blocks and created the first chance of the afternoon in the third minute when Sanders’ through ball found Shay Brennan, and Brennan’s shot was well saved by the QPR keeper.

Home keeper Marcin Brzozowski was forced into his first save of the afternoon on 12 minutes when he comfortably held a QPR shot.

Town took the lead on 20 minutes. QPR failed to deal with a ball in from the right and Sanders reacted quickest to neatly hook the ball home from close range.

Farnham won a penalty in the 29th minute when Lewis Flatman’s ball over the top picked out Brennan, who took an excellent first touch before being taken out by the QPR keeper. Cooksley stepped up from the spot and sent the visiting keeper the wrong way as he coolly tucked his penalty into the right-hand corner of the net to double the home side’s advantage.

Town nearly scored their third of the afternoon on 36 minutes when Jackson’s cutback from the left was deflected to Jack Dean at the far post, but Dean’s close-range header was well saved by the QPR keeper.

Brzozowski was forced into action again before the break and made a neat save down to his left, but Farnham deservedly led 2-0 at half-time.

Farnham made two changes at half-time, with Martins and Owen Dean coming on for Brennan and Flatman.

Town continued to push after the break and nearly made it 3-0 in the 51st minute. Owen Dean played the ball out to Joel Rollinson out on the right, who took a touch before firing his shot over the bar.

Farnham had the ball in the back of the net on 54 minutes when a corner was flicked on by Martins to Owen Dean at the back post, who headed home, but Dean was offside.

Town made a triple change on 55 minutes, with Rollinson, Sanders and Jordan Stepney making way for Kai Tanner, George Butler and Max Meaton.

Farnham scored their third of the afternoon in the 58th minute. Cooksley beat his man and squared the ball across goal to Owen Dean. The ball then broke for Martins, who confidently fired home from close range through the QPR keeper’s legs.

Home keeper Brzozowski was then called into action on 66 minutes, when he tipped a shot over the bar.

Town made it 4-0 on 72 minutes. Jackson played a one-two with Owen Dean before rolling the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.

Farnham made their sixth substitution of the afternoon two minutes later, with Joe Goddard replacing Jack Dean. Town then made a double change on 81 minutes, when Cooksley and Jackson made way for Finn Jordan and Tom Christmas. Brzozowski went off five minutes later, and was replaced by substitute keeper Charlie Burns.

Next up for Farnham is a pre-season friendly away at Redhill on Saturday, July 13 (3pm).
