Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson praised his side’s performance after they picked up an impressive 2-1 win at home to Leatherhead in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

Town dominated the match throughout and deservedly picked up an important three points in their promotion push.

The home side raced into an early 2-0 lead within 21 minutes before conceding in stoppage time to set up a nervy finale.

Johnson was delighted with his side’s display, although the Farnham boss admitted his side could have been more ruthless in front of goal.

“We were really good,” said Johnson.

“We came out the blocks and took our chances early on.

“It was a perfect start.

“We were causing Leatherhead all sorts of problems.

“We continued to dominate but we missed chance after chance – the game should never have got to where it got to.

“It should have been seven or eight but Leatherhead stuck in there and it was a nervy five minutes at the end.

“We should have gone in at least four up at half-time.

“We came out in the second half and should have had another three at least.

“We didn't take those chances and we were made to work hard in the last five minutes.

“We rode the storm at the end so the boys showed that side to them so we'll take that as a positive.”

A big effort had been made by Farnham to get the game on after heavy rainfall the day before the game, and Johnson was delighted to reward those efforts with three points.

“I came down at about half eight and it was a lake on the far side of the pitch – I thought there was no chance of the game being on,” said Johnson.

“It was a great effort by everyone getting it on and it's paid off for us.”

A large crowd of 773 turned up at The Memorial Ground for the match, and Johnson was full of praise for the backing his side received.

“It was a good afternoon and a good atmosphere,” said Johnson.

“Leatherhead’s fans were vocal and so were ours.

“We march on with the three points.”

Town are well placed at the top of the Isthmian League South Central Division as they push for back-to-back promotions, and Johnson insists he is focused on making sure his side continue their winning wats.

“At the business part of the season it doesn't matter how you win, you've just got to win these games,” said Johnson.

“We'll tick this one off.”
