Haslemere Hockey Club got the new season off to a flying start with eight wins and a draw on Saturday in the opening league matches.
The men’s first team won 6-1 at Oxford OBU in their first league match in South Central Premier Division One.
The game started quickly, with both teams trying to control the tempo.
Haslemere were put under pressure from the off by OBU’s high press, but found a way through when Jacob Hall beat his man and finished well into the bottom corner on his reverse.
OBU struck back quickly with a short corner and the game was heading towards a draw at half-time.
However, Alfie Richards’ quick thinking found Richie Turpin in the D, and he rounded the keeper and finished well to make it 2-1 to Haslemere going into the half-time break.
The second half saw Haslemere up their game, controlling the game from back to front. The visitors produced a thoroughly clinical second-half performance to score four unanswered goals.
Haslemere’s women’s first team won 3-1 at Southampton University in South Central Premier Division Two, while the women’s second team secured a resounding 4-1 victory against Alton.
The men’s second team beat Wimborne Wayfarers 3-1, while the men’s third team beat Chichester’s fourth team 5-4.
The women’s fifth team beat Portsmouth 2-0, while the men’s sixth team won 7-1 in their league debut.
The men’s over-50s masters side beat Surbiton Magnets 4-0, while the women’s fourth team drew 3-3 against US Portsmouth.
Petersfield Hockey Club’s women’s first team started their season with a 6-0 defeat against Andover, while the women’s second team lost 11-0 against Chichester.
The men’s second team beat Gillingham’s second team 8-0. Petersfield led 5-0 at half-time thanks to goals from J Budden, M White, Young, N Budden and Bott. Prince, B White and Bott scored in the second half to seal Petersfield’s 8-0 win.
The men’s third team drew 2-2 at Basingstoke. Alec Scott-Plummer and Gavin Marshall scored Petersfield’s goals.
Petersfield’s under-12 boys travelled to Fareham on Sunday and picked up two wins, beating Fareham 5-3 and Havant Hawks 4-0.
