Farnham Rugby Club Falcons women’s first team earned an impressive 44-7 victory at home to Horsham Women in Women’s NC One South East (South) on Sunday.
The Falcons faced Horsham Women – a team who sit one place above them in the league – with some confidence having beaten Horsham 24-12 back in December.
That confidence was well-placed as the Farnham women ultimately ran out comfortable winners at Monkton Lane.
Conditions were good for rugby – the studs were needed in the mud and the try-scoring action showed that the Falcons’ first team were building on the momentum they have gathered across the season.
The Falcons’ game was a powerful combination of good defence, aggression at the breakdown, fast distribution and genuine pace out wide.
Farnham were dominant in set pieces and with their tackling, and were relentless in attack to keep building on their score.
Among Farnham’s try scorers was full-back Emma Mortimer, who stepped the Horsham defence to launch an 80-metre run and score a brilliant try.
Farnham Falcons remain in fourth place in Women’s NC One South East (South) following their win, while Horsham remain in third place.
The Falcons now have a two-week break before travelling along the Hogs Back to take on the Guildford Gazelles – who have an unassailable lead at the top of the table – on Sunday, April 7. The Farnham Falcons will relish that challenge.
Farnham Falcons finish their season with a home match against Canterbury Women on Sunday, April 14.
