Fundraisers who burned off the festive pounds have raised a hot Cross sum for a Haslemere charity,

People who took part in the 2024 Boxing Day Run in Hindhead have raised £5,200 to support patient care at Holy Cross Hospital.

Event organiser Matt Dellar handed over the very late Christmas present in gratitude of the staff who work tirelessly to provide 24-hour hour personalised care for their 42 patients.

He said: “The event saw fantastic participation, with runners coming from far and wide to support this annual community run.

‘Although people take part for lots of different reasons, there is always a great atmosphere. I always enjoy presenting the cheque to Holy Cross and meeting some of the people who benefit from the donation.

“It’s important for runners to know their generosity is truly appreciated and put to very good use."

More than 500 people took part in the 3.5mile December 2024 run which began at the Devil’s Punchbowl Hotel before winding around Hindhead Common.

Participants had the option of a standard race or they could raise a glass to the cause with a pint of winter ale served at the two-mile mark.

Holy Cross Hospital has been part of the Haslemere community for more than a century and specialises in neurorehabilitation, general and post-operative rehabilitation, and complex respiratory care.

The funds raised will help enhance the quality of care and support provided to both inpatients and outpatients.

"We are incredibly grateful to all the runners, sponsors and volunteers who made this event a success," said its chief executive, Frances Campion-Smith.

"Their support will make a real difference in the lives of our patients and their families."
