A man who caused “harassment, alarm, or distress” to a woman at Haslemere station has been sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work.

Liam Flanagan, 22, from Aldershot, was sentenced at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on July 19 following the incident at the station a year earlier.

The court heard that on August 22, 2022, Flanagan used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour, causing his victim harassment, alarm or distress.

This was contrary to Section 4A(1) and (5) of the Public Order Act 1986.

Flanagan must now carry out 100 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months, pay £100 in compensation, and a surcharge of £114 to fund victim services.

He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The court took into account Flanagan’s guilty plea when imposing the sentence.
