Haslemere has cleaned up its act with the installation of three new litter bins around town—at Chestnut Avenue car park, outside Waitrose, and at the junction of Church Road and Tanners Lane. These bins were requested by the pupil parliament at St Bartholomew’s School. The Mayor and town council officers swiftly liaised with Waverley Borough Council to make it happen.

The Town Council has also installed battery-powered people counters in all three toilets at Lion Green. Over the five weeks since their installation, the toilets have seen an average of 1,130 uses per week, including two daily visits by cleaners. Despite previous controversy, the council say the count proves the toilets were both necessary and well-used.

A suggestion has also been made to the council to keep the toilets open past the current 6pm closing time, allowing people on the green more access during summer months. The council is currently considering this proposal.
