Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was delighted with his side’s performance after they beat a young QPR XI 4-0 at a packed Memorial Ground in a pre-season friendly.

Goals from Darryl Sanders, Harry Cooksley, Duarte Martins and Joe Jackson fired Farnham to an emphatic win in front of a crowd of 1,205 on Saturday.

"It was a good performance and a good day all round,” said Johnson. “There was a good crowd and they got to see some good goals.

"The crowd is pretty impressive, you've got to say. Well done to QPR for coming down and playing us. We enjoyed it.

"It's still a bit early in pre-season. We've only been back for a week, but the boys have hit the ground running. You can see it straight away. Everyone's buzzing to try to get in the team and prove a point. We didn't carry anyone – even the youth-team boys did really well.

"There were no injuries and we scored some good goals. It's one to enjoy.”

Johnson is happy with how his squad is shaping up for the new season. Town did a lot of their business early in the summer, with new arrivals Martins, Marcin Brzozowski, Shay Brennan, George Butler, Joel Rollinson and Jordan Stepney all joining Farnham this summer.

"We got it done early – like we did last year,” said Johnson. “Again, we're small on numbers. We carry 16 first-teamers and top them up with the youth boys. I'm happy with what we've got. We may add one or two, but we're not looking. We're happy.”

Sanders missed the end of last season through injury, and Johnson was delighted with his performance against QPR.

"It's great to have him back – he's like another new signing,” said Johnson. “We missed him so much last year. He brings the buzz around the ground and with the boys.

"I also thought Shay was excellent – his movement and his desire to get in the box. I thought he was a real positive.

"Owen Dean and Duarte came on and looked really lively – they both had chances. Duarte's off the mark, so that will be a relief for him.

"Joe Jackson was excellent. He's come back in tremendous shape. He looks like he's ready for the season to start now and he capped it off with a well-taken goal.

"We look forward to Redhill. At the moment we're concentrating on getting ready for the season."

Next up for Farnham is a pre-season friendly away at Redhill on Saturday, July 13 (3pm).
